4 Tips to Get The Prescription You Want (Part 2)
2 – Do the research. The internet and public libraries are full of medical information available for anyone to look into. If the appointment is a few days off, put your symptoms into one of the online sites to see what information comes back. Pay the site another visit after your doctor gives you your diagnosis as well, looking up the various options for treatment. Perhaps there’s a better medication suited to your condition, or one you can better afford. Go to your physician informed properly, and you’re more likely to negotiate an agreeable outcome.
3 – Be friendly with your physician. Doctors are people too, with personalities and interests. While they’re usually very busy and don’t have a great deal of time to spend on small chat, you lose nothing by asking after them a bit. A simple ‘How are you doing?’ and a friendly smile can open up a world of opportunities. Sometimes it may not change the results, as some illnesses only require one treatment only, but in some cases it just might result in that extra step that gets you exactly what you’re looking for.
4 – Get a second opinion. Doctors are just as human as the rest of the world, and sometimes they don’t catch everything. Malpractice insurance exists for a reason, after all. If you’re unsatisfied, take the time to follow up with another doctor if you can. However, don’t go ready to bash your first doctor, that isn’t professional and it likely won’t accomplish the goal you’re looking for. Be just as friendly and courteous as before, treating this visit as its own occurrence, with its own separate goal, specifically your health and getting the medicine you need.
