Ambien Should Be Taken On Empty Stomach
Took Ambien CR for a week, but had….strange thoughts.(we’ll just leave it at that) Also, it wasn’t really giving me much more sleep than without anything (around 3 hours). Dr suggested I try Lunesta, and the difference is amazing! I actually get 6 hours of sleep, and while I do feel a little groggy, I am able to do some light exercise to shake off the effects (indoor walking program-nothing too strenuous). My only complaint is the GAWDAWFUL taste that it leaves-both immediately after taking it and continuing into the next day. It’s like I’m holding a quarter under my tongue or something-very metallic and slightly bitter-everything I eat or drink has this terrible aftertaste, but for the sleep, it’s worth it.

I noticed a lot of posts comparing one drug to another, or asking about the differences, and I just found a website that explains in detail 4 of them: Rozerem, Ambien CR, Lunesta and Sonata. It’s a little “medical”, but towards the end, there’s a chart that has average onset, 1/2 life of each one, and other details which are a good basis for comparison.
It specifically mentions that Ambien CR and Lunesta should be taken on an empty stomach for the correct effect to take place. I think that if the drug is taken AT LEAST 3 hours after your last meal/snack, it might work better for you, if you’re having problems.
It also suggests taking Lunesta with an acidic drink like orange juice, which seems to help some with the immediate bad taste. This is not doctors advice, just reporting what was found. For more information visit Ambien CR website.
